Plant Design for Mature Landscapes

Many Bexley properties already have mature trees and planting worth keeping.

Design starts by deciding what stays, then adds beds, shrubs, and lawn areas that work with the existing canopy. The full plan, including the hardscape, is drawn and scoped before installation begins.

Patios and Paver Walkways on Established Lots

Each is installed over a compacted base and graded to drain, and low stone walls can define the edges or hold a change in grade.

Fireplaces and Fire Pits Through the Year

Each is sized to the space and built in materials that match the house.

A fountain or small water feature adds the sound of moving water to a compact backyard.

Each fountain is planned with the patio so the feature can be seen and heard from the seating area.

Pergolas and Pavilions for Smaller Yards

A pergola adds shade and structure without closing in a smaller yard, and a pavilion gives outdoor dining a roof.

Both are designed to match the architecture of the house.

About Bexley, OH

Bexley is a city in Franklin County, about 2.4 square miles with roughly 13,900 residents and the 43209 ZIP code.

It formed as a village in 1908, when the Bullitt Park and Pleasant Ridge neighborhoods merged, and became a city in 1932. Bexley sits on the banks of Alum Creek, and Main Street, part of the National Road, runs through it.

Capital University is based here, and the Ohio Governor’s Residence is one of the city’s large estates. Jeffrey Mansion, built between 1903 and 1905 on nearly 40 acres in North Bexley, is open to the public. In 2013, Bexley became the first U.S. city accredited as an arboretum by the Morton Register of Arboreta. Students attend Bexley City Schools. Mature trees and historic homes make tree-aware planning part of most projects here.
